KEK INSURANCE Group, one of the Ghana’s largest insurance broking and consulting firms, has held its fifth anniversary and public lecture in memory of the late founder, Kwesi Essel-Koomson, in Accra.

The late Mr Essel-Koomson passed away on April 29, 2010.

He was celebrated for his positive impact towards the insurance industry as well as his hard work and contribution to the lives of young ones; for which he established Mother Theresa Girls’ School.

He served on a number of associations and boards, including National President of the Old Vandals Association (OVA) of the Commonwealth Hall, Board Member of the Senya Secondary School, Chairman of the Union Rural Bank and Vice President for the African Insurance Brokers Association (AIBA).

He was also a board member of the Ghana Reinsurance Company from 2004 to 2005.

On the double occasion, Commissioner of Insurance, Lydia Lariba Bawa, gave a lecture in memory of the late KEK boss on the theme: ‘No Premium, No Cover, The Journey So Far’.

Speaking on the rationale for the implementation of the No Premium No Cover (NPNC), she said the Ghana insurance market was saddled with a lot of challenges, some of which were as a result of the huge levels of premium debts on the books of insurance companies.

According to her, it is one of the bold initiatives by the NIC to roll out the policy unto the Ghanaian market and thus position the industry for stability, safety, and financial soundness.

Ms Bawa said the NPNC directives have helped the industry to improve liquidity, customer service, reduce fraud, improve validity of reported premium income and led to cleaner balance sheets.

“There is no doubt that the policy has come to stay, the NIC will not relent on its effort in seeing to the successful enforcement of the directive to address the liquidity, solvency and claims payment of insurers,” she noted.

The Commissioner of Insurance urged insurance broking companies to learn from the KEK story and structure their companies in a way that allows the companies to live beyond their founders.

KEK Insurance Group was established in the year 1985 and became the leading broker in the country two years after.

The Group, guided by the portrayal of hard work, professional standards and discipline seeks to fulfill the vision of maintaining high professional and ethical standards and positive growth.

Suame Artisans Storm NPP Office

http://ift.tt/1AnZfkh

Kwadwo Boateng Genfi being mobbed by NPP delegates and artisans.

Interesting scenes emerged at the NPP regional office at Krofrom in Kumasi when artisans from the famous Suame-Magazine industrial area invaded the place Wednesday afternoon.

The artisans were at the regional party office to throw their weight behind Kwadwo Boateng Genfi, one of the contenders in the Suame New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary race, who was visiting the office to submit his nomination form.

The artisans, who have declared their unflinching support for Boateng Genfi, left their work and followed the aspirant to Krofrom, amid drumming and dancing.

Boateng Genfi, whose popularity in Suame keeps rising daily, was mobbed by enthusiastic-looking party supporters when he finally reached the regional party office to submit his form.

Addressing the gathering, he said his prime ambition was to bring an end to the apathy which had set in at Suame by campaigning vigorously to ensure that more people vote for Nana Akufo-Addo in 2016.

Mr Genfi, who is well connected locally and internationally, stated that he would use his links to get resources to ensure that the NPP’s campaign machinery at Suame was always in motion.

He said the 600,000 votes the NDC amassed in the Ashanti Region in 2012 was an unacceptable feat, stressing that the party needs energetic, visionary and resourceful people like him and Wontumi to lead the NPP to victory in 2016.

Sounding confident, he predicted that he would win the NPP polls with a wider margin, promising to go all out to ensure that the NPP maximised its votes at Suame in the 2016 elections.

Mr Genfi submitted his form to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, after which he returned to Suame in the company of the NPP delegates and the artisans.

NDC Organizer Curses With Antoa

http://ift.tt/1DGlKRv

Ama Gyamaa

THE NDC deputy women organizer for Affigya Kwabre South, Ama Gyamaa, has allegedly invoked the dreaded Antoa Nyamaa river deity and another river god to strike dead some faceless people who she claims are defaming Eric Opoku, the acting Ashanti Regional Minister.

According to her, some people are spreading wild rumours that Mr. Eric Opoku, who is also the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, engaged them to kill one Isaac Boakye, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Asunafo South constituency, during the 2012 general elections.

Ama Gyamaa added that the same people were wrongly accusing Eric Opoku of having a hand in the recent mayhem which occurred at Sankore in the Brong-Ahafo Region, “Even though Eric Opoku has no hand in the pandemonium.”

She said the allegations were fast destroying the hard-won image and reputation of the regional minister, who doubles as the NDC MP for Asunafo South, adding that he had stated categorically to her (Gyamaa) that he knew nothing about the speculations.

Ama Gyamaa, who described Eric Opoku as her mentor and father in politics, said all attempts to locate those faceless people to substantiate their speculations had been in vain, hence her decision to invoke the powerful river deity to kill them wherever they are.

The NDC women organizer, at a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday to clear the name of Eric Opoku, shocked journalists when at the tail end of the event, she invoked Antoa Nyamaa and Adwumakaase Subi deities, to deal ruthlessly with those faceless people.

She said if Eric Opoku indeed contracted people to eliminate Isaac Boakye during the 2012 elections as was being spread around, especially on some selected radio networks in Kumasi, then the two powerful river deities should not spare him (Eric Opoku).

Ama Gyamaa added that if the rumours are falsehood strategically planned just to dent the image of Mr. Eric Opoku for political reasons, then the river deities should kill the detractors adding, “After killing them the gods should use their wives and children for thanksgiving.”

‘Step Down Or Lose’

http://ift.tt/1I2p69m

Esther Obeng Dapaah

The Abirim constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern Region have asked the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Esther Obeng Dapaah, not to contest again in the upcoming primaries slated for June 13.

Joseph Acheampong, Abirim NPP constituency chairman, on Wednesday made this disclosure to the media when one of the parliamentary aspirants, Ing. Daniel Kwadwo Afirifa, stormed the party office to file his nomination forms.

The chairman claimed, “We have asked our MP to step aside and allow others to go since we have surveyed and seen that she will lose the parliamentary seat to the NDC in the 2016 general elections, if she contests again.”

According to Mr Acheampong, Ms Esther Obeng Dapaah had won the seat three times and that she told the party members sometime ago that she wouldn’t contest any longer and so they wondered why she was still joining the race.

Mr. Acheampong explained that the entire party executives and council of elders had a meeting last month with Ms Dapaah and told her to step down and allow someone else to continue the good works she had done for the party.

“Everywhere we go the grassroots are complaining that we should ask Esther to step aside,” the chairman posited.

“We need power not candidate, so we pleaded with her to step aside, but she failed to listen to us and has picked and filed the nomination forms.

We are not against her or preparing the ground for somebody, but the ground is not good for her; we even doubt if she will win the upcoming primaries,” Mr. Acheampong stated.

So far, five people – Ing Daniel Kwadwo Afirifa, Michael Sefa, John Osei Frimpong, Christen Antwi Frimpong, including the incumbent Esther Obeng Dapaah – have picked and filed their nomination forms.

When contacted by DAILY GUIDE via telephone, Ms Obeng Dapaah commented, “My Redeemer lives so I don’t care about what they are saying. I will win the primaries hands-down, and bring victory to the NPP come 2016.”

Nifa SHS Headmaster Sued For Attempted Rape

http://ift.tt/1ubOLXE

The Headmaster of the Nifa Senior High School in the Eastern region has been sued by his Assistant Headmistress for attempted rape.

Anna Duodo is accusing Alex Acquah of sexual assault and attempting to rape her in May last year in his office.

She is also challenging her transfer from the school by the Regional Education Director following a complaint of rape.

The assistant headmistress filed the suit at the Akropong circuit court following several petitions to the Educational Directorate and the Ghana National Association of Teachers.

Excerpts of the petition seen by Starrfmonline.com read: “As I entered his office, he seized hold of me, dragged me to a chair, tripped me up into it and sat astride me, I was in a skirt and a buttoned top, he debuttoned the top, took hold of my breasts and fondled them.

“Because there was no one around, all my distress cum protests yells came to naught.

“At this point, he had fully worked himself into a frenzy, he pulled me from the chair and tried to stretch me on a table while he stripped himself naked, he relaxed his grip on me and when he was almost stark naked he let go completely of me.

“Perhaps he thought I had yielded or had been prostrated by the struggle. Then I made an escape with the little strength in me before he fully got out of his boxer pant”.
