Suspect Mohammed Iddrisu in police custody
A 22-year old suspected armed robber who attempted to kill a police officer while escaping in one of their robbery expeditions last year at Kasoa has finally been apprehended.
Suspect Mohammed Iddrisu, according to police reports, succeeded in shooting the thigh of the police officer (name withheld) with a pistol before fleeing into a nearby bush.
Suspect was arrested after police managed to apprehend one of his accomplices named David Johnson, 22, a Baukinabe national currently facing trial at the court.
At a media briefing in Accra, ACP Timothy Yoosa Bonga, Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander said the incident occurred around 9am on September 14, 2014 at Weija toll booth area.
The police officer after duty was on his way home when he spotted three young men on a motor bike around the Weija toll booth area.
Suspecting them to be armed robbers, the police officer ordered them to stop but they refused.
Immediately the police officer sped up and crossed them with his motor bike, but Iddrisu pulled a pistol and shot the police officer in his thigh and fled into the bush.
After the incident, a patrol team in the area, got hint of the shooting and pursued the suspects.
David Johnson was then apprehended but Iddrisu and another suspect (name withheld) managed to escape.
Through police intelligence Iddrisu, the main suspect was apprehended on April 13, 2015 from his hideout at Kasoa.
Investigations are still ongoing for him to be prosecuted.
