Armed robbers have allegedly killed two people, including a Chinese miner, at Akyem Anyinam in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region, DAILY GUIDE has gathered.

The incident took place around 7:30 pm while it was raining heavily at a junction called Yaw Mahama – along the Anyinam-Kwabeng road. The robbers were said to have blocked the road with logs and managed to stop over 10 vehicles and robbed the passengers of some valuables, including gold.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the robbers shot the Chinese man, Cheng Jiang, 34, in the neck when he was driving a Toyota Rav 4 with registration number GS 609-14 and heading from Asamanma to Nkawkaw allegedly carrying a large quantity of gold. They reportedly shot the back of the driver of a Kia Rio taxi with registration number, GW 8696-15, Isaac Brobbey, 28, which was carrying passengers from Anyinam to Kwabeng Wednesday evening.

According to one Eric Konadu, “A Chinese miner who was in one of the cars told them that he had no money on him and that provoked them to shoot him. A gold dealer was also robbed of GH¢3,000 and they took GH¢500 from another miner,” he claimed.

A Land Cruiser Prado vehicle with registration number GN 8696-15 carrying gold from Akyem Abomosu to Koforidua was also robbed.

The bodies of the two persons have been transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy.

The Anyinam District Police Commander, Superintendent Jeffrey Darko, confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE. According to him, his outfit had begun moves to apprehend the robbers.
