The trial of the house help who allegedly connived with three others to rob her employer, yesterday took a shocking twist when lawyers of the suspect accused a witness in the case of impregnating their client.

Lawyer Augustine Obuor, who had entered the case pro bono, accused Foster Obeng of having sexual intercourse with Leticia Oppong, the very lady he (Obeng) had mounted the witness box to testify against.

Foster Obeng had told the court that Leticia had confided in him that she arranged with Emma and his accomplices to rob her madam.

He said among other things that Leticia, after the robbery, allegedly collected GH¢1,000 as her share of the booty.

Obeng, who said he was a mason, said Leticia later went for the said GH¢1,000 and brought it to him.

But Mr. Obuor, who was cross-examining the witness, said the alleged sexual affair happened on March 5, 2015 when the accused was drunk.

He prayed the court to make an order for the police to conduct a pregnancy test on Leticia.

The trial judge, Justice Francis Obiri – a high court judge sitting with additional responsibility as a circuit court judge –  accordingly ordered that the accused be sent to the 37 Military Hospital for the pregnancy test, the cost of which would be borne by him (Obuor).

The judge emphasized that the test must tell the court how old the pregnancy was as at Thursday, April 23, 2015.

The case was adjourned until April 29, 2015.

Leticia is before the court for allegedly aiding  and abetting one Emma and two others – who are at large – to rob Madam Regina Rose Abban, a pensioner, of £3,500; GH¢600, mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money in an envelope on February 26, 2015 at Dansoman in Accra

She has pleaded not guilty to the charge of abetment.
