IN RESPONSE to public concerns over the poor state of ‘Kwasea-Dwoasu’, a popular market at the Tema central business centre, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema East Constituency, Hon. Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus-Glover has moved to revamp the market to boost trading activities.
The rehabilitation work which was about 70 percent complete includes cementing the floor, building of two bedrooms with washrooms attached for the traders at an estimated cost of GH₵48, 000.
Hon. Titus-Glover speaking with DAILY GUIDE during a tour of the construction site mentioned that the project formed part of his share of the common fund which was given to MPs to undertake developmental projects in their respective constituencies across the country.
He said he had decided to reconstruct the market to mitigate the suffering the traders go through on rainy days and ease congestion on the pavements.
“Whenever it rains, the traders are unable to sell thereby denying them of their livelihood. Some move to sell on the pavement in front of the market as a result of the poor state of the place. When I complete the project, it will go a long way to ease congestion on the road since the traders will return to the market,” he stressed.
The Tema East MP appealed to the market women to endeavor to keep the place tidy at all times and ensure that sanity prevails. He urged them to pay their tolls regularly to help the assembly work effectively.
He thanked the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) for responding to his request to undertake the facelift of the market.
A representative, Victoria Gbebley who spoke on behalf of the market women expressed gratitude to Hon. Titus-Glover for coming to their aid and promised to keep the market clean at all times.
‘Kwasea Dwoasu’ is a market conveniently located at Community One, Tema. It is a notable place for traders who sell foodstuffs such as plantain, yam, cassava, etc.
