Two friends who engaged in a fight over GH¢800 resulting in one chewing off the other’s right ear, have appeared in an Accra circuit court. The biting off of the ear was said to be in vengeance for an earlier biting of his left arm by his friend.
Leslie Addo, a sea fairer and his friend, Jeffery Laweh, a trader, were put in a court presided over by M.E. Essandoh and charged with causing unlawful harm; they both pleaded not guilty.
They have been granted bail in the sum of GH¢3,000 with two sureties while the case has been adjourned to May 22, 2015.
Narrating events leading to the arrest of the two, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Maxwell Oppong, said that Addo and Larweh had been friends for some years now.
According to him, Addo put GH¢1,500 in the business of Larweh so after sometime Addo went to his friend for GH¢800 to rent a room.
Chief Inspector Maxwell Oppongcontinued that the two friends were living together initially so Addo consequently moved out after renting a room.
The prosecutor posited that Larweh went to a friend of his who is a witness in this case, a few months after Addo had taken the money from him and complained that he (Addo) owed him, and the friend advised him (Larweh) to try and see his friend so that they could settle their differences amicably.
According to Chief Inspector Oppong, the witness (Larweh’s purported friend) even advised him to return to her if he could not settle the issue so that she would know what to do.
The court was informed that Larweh, on January 8, 2015, went to the house of Addo with five other guys and the witness, who was there at that time, tried to prevent him from entering his friend’s room but could not.
The police officer stated that the trader entered the room of the Addo and took his passport and other travel documents and said he was seizing them till he (Addo) paid the debt owed him.
He said Addo tried to get his items back and a fight ensued between them, resulting in Larweh biting the left arm of his friend, who also bit off the his right ear in retaliation.
