Louis van Gaal
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has returned fire at Chelsea rival Jose Mourinho after last Sunday’s defeat.
Mourinho claimed after Chelsea‘s 1-0 win that the game had gone exactly as he had planned it.
But Van Gaal responded to the jibe by saying: “I was surprised when he said that but you can say anything as a winning coach.
“Football’s not counting possession – it’s counting goals and we lost 1-0. But I was surprised at the way Jose Mourinho analysed the game.
“Maybe he meant to say he knew in advance that Manchester United would attack and that he would be satisfied with a draw to keep the points distance between us the same.
“So it was then easier to defend – and his line-up was like that, with Kurt Zouma in midfield against Marouane Fellaini.
“But in spite of his defensive organisation, we created a lot of chances and had a lot of possession.
“It was nearly a miracle that they scored a goal out of only four chances and 30 per cent possession.
“You can’t make a tactic like that at your own home against Manchester United.
“I didn’t have the opportunity to see him after the match. It is difficult with all the interviews we have to do and as top clubs, we have to do them for TV stations from abroad, too.”
