The Accra Central Divisional Police Command has arrested a 44-year-old rastaman for allegedly stabbing a private security officer at Akuma near the Accra Arts Centre area.

The suspect, Naphatale Dzifa aka Rasta, stabbed the victim who was on duty at the entrance of the Rising Phoenix Beach Resort after a quarrel.

The deceased, who sustained various degrees of injuries in the chest and arm, is currently on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital receiving treatment.

Confirming the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, ACP Joseph Oklu Gyamera, the Accra Central Divisional Police Commander, said the incident occurred around 11am on May 7, 2015.

The victim, then on duty, was stationed at the entrance of the Rising Phoenix Beach Resort to guard the area when suspect Rasta entered the premises to refresh himself.

Whilst there, Rasta reportedly picked a quarrel with one Ayigbe, whom he alleged owed him an amount of GH¢200.

The victim, who heard the two shouting, entered the yard and ordered them to immediately leave the premises since they were disturbing other people.

ACP Joseph Oklu Gyamera said Ayigbe left the resort but Rasta refused to go out.

The victim then tried to push the suspect out of the area but in the process, the suspect pulled out a knife from his trousers and stabbed him in the arm.

The victim, who was then holding a tea cup, threw the cup at the suspect, thus injuring him in the head.

Rasta, who was them fuming with rage, pounced on the victim and stabbed victim in the chest and other parts of the body.

The police officer said the suspect was immediately arrested and sent to the nearest police station.

In his caution statement, the suspect reportedly admitted the offence, adding that he stabbed the victim out of self defence.

According to police, investigations are still ongoing.
